(Before It's News)

Competition shooter Kirsten Joy Weiss set aside the space-age reinforced match rifles for a bit and went back to America’s Colonial roots with the flintlock.

Although it started in Europe, the flintlock was mated with long rifled barrels by cottage industry gunsmiths in the New World, giving it the moniker of the “Pennsylvania Rifle” or “Kentucky Rifle,” and by nature of its rifling and smaller caliber balls held a distinct accuracy advantage over the military smooth bore musket– like the ones used by King George’s Lobsterbacks.

And KJW goes in-depth with her flintlock experience, even getting in-touch with some bear grease for authenticity sake.
