AZ U.S. Senate candidate Meluskey hides from GOP label
Modeling himself after John McCain, Alex Meluskey has novel ways of asking for campaign donations. After previously addressing email recipients with a boorish “Hey,” he derisively lectures potential donors, “it’s time we all have skin in the game.” What Meluskey is actually saying is that his mainly self-funded campaign is running out of $team. According to the most recent FEC filings, 86.4% of his campaign has been self funded. Only 9% of his money comes from itemized individual contributions — a short list filled with relatives, retirees, and out-of-state donors. Operating expenditures are high — donors sparse.
Meluskey, obviously not generating the money necessary to run a formidable campaign, characterizes himself as a “conservative outsider.” He hits it out of the park with the outsider description, since he only registered as a Republican when he decided to run. Previously he was a PND — Party Not Designated. The descriptive term “Republican” is missing from his website and literature. Prior to gearing up for this race, he’s shown zero interest in the Republican Party. Meluskey also plays fast and loose with the truth, distorting the record and photo images of Dr. Kelli Ward, as he pretentiously compares himself to Ronald Reagan.
This PPP survey of Arizona voters shows John McCain at “serious risk of losing the nomination,” polling at only 39% in the Republican primary field. He’s benefiting from having multiple opponents as enabler Meluskey is keenly aware. Many political observers believe that’s exactly why he’s in the race.
Censured by elected leaders of his own party, John McCain has not only worn out his welcome among Arizona voters, he is viewed as the least popular U.S. Senator nationwide. That’s a record McCain has to fight to maintain, since his doppelgänger Jeff Flake previously won the undesirable prize just three months after taking office. Arizonans don’t deserve one such embarrassment — let alone two.
Rather than assisting an actual conservative, Meluskey appears to be working double time to either keep the status quo or aid Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick.
Polling shows Dr. Kelli Ward at 26%, Alex Meluskey at 4% and Clair Van Steenwyk at 2% with 27% undecided. In a head-to-head match up between McCain and Ward, the two are tied at 41%. Ward is polling this competitively at this point despite having lesser name recognition. A former state senator and a Lake Havasu City physician, she has the experience to retool Obamacare and the integrity to make Arizonans proud of their senate representation. After repeatedly being directed to drink the amnesty Kool Aid by Sens. Kyl, McCain and Flake, wouldn’t that be a novel concept for Arizonans?
It’s critical that voters get up to speed on the ongoing deception. SRAZ has covered Meluskey previously in these posts:
