In this stark political landscape, I seem to find myself caught between Scylla and Charybdis; between the devil and the deep blue sea, vis-à-vis the future of the country; given the apparent void among viable presidential candidates.
“A void”, you might say; “aren’t there actually too many?”
Well, yes; in the way that there are perhaps too many types of fast food restaurants; but no-one would accuse them of being nourishing.
When I think of the desperate shape our country is in, and its desperate need for not good, but great leadership; and I see on one side perhaps the worst political candidate ever; versus a veritable smorgasbord of Jordan Bakers, Tom Buchanans, and Meyer Wolfsheims; I must admit, my first inclination is to write the entire system off as being unworthy of participation.
To top it all off, none of the candidates, Republican or Democrat, are coming to us with platforms that suit reality. Instead, discounting Trump’s mania, they are merely towing the line of their parties; dragging along the dross of old stances and traditional nostalgia. Even the Democrats prove regressive in their predictable progressive stance.
