Howdy folks. How are you all doing? Nasty Nathanial here and it’s time for another police interaction story. This one involves deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department.

Ok one night while I was walking along Grand Avenue in the city of Grover Beach in California I noticed a SLO County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle with it’s overhead lights flashing. Two deputies were conducting what appeared to be a routine traffic stop. So I pull out my camcorder and began filming what was taking place all while standing at a reasonable distance.

It immediately became apparent to me that these deputies didn’t appreciate me filming them. One of them kept on giving me dirty looks as you can see in the video. But despite the fact that I was standing at a reasonable distance and that I was not in anyway interfering with their duties, my presence was not welcomed. Oh well. I guess you can’t please everyone.

So once they were done dealing with the individual that they had stopped, both deputies walked around to the rear of their patrol vehicle which was closest to where I was standing. One of them asked me what I originally thought was “how are you?”. I mean it would seem logical to me that if you are going to walk up to a complete stranger the first you would say is “how are you?”, or “how’s it going?”, or maybe even “how’s your evening going?”. But instead this deputy was actually asking me “who are you?” and this is what I want to highlight in this piece that I am submitting.

I’m sorry but this kind of stuff right here really irritates the shit out of me. First of all, I feel that the appropriate thing to do if you you are going to approach a complete stranger would be to ask them how they are doing. Secondly, I don’t feel it appropriate to walk up to a complete stranger and go “who are you?”. It would be rude for anybody to do this. But for a public official who works for the county and wears a uniform to do this, it would not only be rude, but downright unprofessional.

Ok here’s the thing. Our tax dollars that the government takes from us goes towards paying people like that deputy’s salary, You would think that the least thing he, and public officials like him, could do is act professional. Is that too much to ask? I think that maybe what SLO County Sheriff Ian Parkinson needs to do is get his deputies up to date on their people skills. What do you all think? Thanks for checking this out and I look forward to all of your comments.

The video and post you just saw was a submission from CopBlock regular ‘Nasty’ Nathanial Thomas, who recently returned from the shooting a documentary in the Philippines and was gonna head off to Tibet before recently deciding to stick around and do some serious Cop Blocking. Keep an eye out for more of his upcoming work.
