#Supervolcanoes, such as those found in #Yellowstone, Lake Toba and Long Valley, have the potential to cause catastrophic destruction across the whole planet. An eruption could lead to a volcanic winter, where the sulphuric acid released blocks out the Sun’s light, causing global temperatures to plummet.
Quartz crystals from Long Valley caldera reveal how gas powering supereruptions accumulates in just a year.
There would be just one year to prepare for an eruption from a supervolcano, scientists have discovered. Despite taking hundreds of thousands of years to accumulate enough magma for a supereruption, researchers found the final trigger would take place over an extremely short period of time.
Supervolcanoes, such as those found in Yellowstone, Lake Toba and Long Valley, have the potential to cause catastrophic destruction across the whole planet. An eruption could lead to a volcanic winter, where the sulphuric acid released blocks out the Sun’s light, causing global temperatures to plummet.
Experts state that we would only have about one year warning if a mega #volcano were to erupt #catastrophically, putting all life on #Earth at risk.
New research shows that although the volcano would need to be building up for tens of thousands of years, as magma becomes packed beneath the surface slowly building pressure, we would only have a year’s notice.
Guilherme Gualda, associate professor of earth and environment sciences at Vanderbilt University and co-author of the study published in PLOS One, said: “The evolution of a giant, super-eruption-feeding magma body is characterised by events taking place at a variety of time scales.
“Now we have shown that the onset of the process of decompression, which releases the gas bubbles that power the eruption, starts less than a year before eruption.”
We would not have enough time to prepare for a super volcano eruption
However, the frightening realization that we would only have a year to prepare would mean that nothing short of a miracle would be required to save us.
Mr Gualda and his co-author Stephen Sutton, of the University of Chicago, analysed dozens of small quartz crystals from a huge #volcaniceruption that took place 760,000 years ago in #California. READ MORE
The Bible tells us that every human has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God which is is a heart-penetrating truth. He has provided a way to cleanse us of our sins since we can never be “good enough” to cleanse ourselves. That avenue to God’s grace, mercy and forgiveness (the cleansing of our sins) is through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth Who is equally God.
Not one of us are guaranteed a “tomorrow”. Has your time run out? Will you continue to ignore the promptings of God the Holy Spirit or have you awakened to the essential need for God, risking eternal damnation?
God the Holy Father, God the Holy Son and God the Holy Spirit are One God, the true, living, uncreated God Who is ever-present, all knowing, all powerful and all loving. He desires that every single person be forgiven, saved and to live eternally with Him. He is our only real protection and His love for you is unchanging. Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, the true Messiah, today.
You can’t take your salvation for a test drive. You’re all-in or not.
Admit to Him that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness, that you are truly sorry for your sins. Acknowledge that He died for your sins, rose from the dead and lives forevermore. Invite Him into your life and to help you to turn from sin. Rejoice! You just became a Christian! Now trust in Him and get to know Him through the Bible which tells us everything we need to know and through prayer/talking to Him. He eagerly desires relationship with you.
With all due respect, the video calls it the “Palvov Volcano”.
It is actually the “Palvof Volcano”, and starting your story out getting the name wrong, is not a very good start!
This volcano erupted already recently, in 2013. You’ll notice, that it’s eruption in 2013, was not a “super-eruption” nor did it destroy the United States.
In fact, the fact that it erupted recently, in 2013, means we have very little, to nothing to worry about another eruption happening now, as it would, from all scientific viewpoints, now be an even weaker eruption than what we have already witnessed. Also this “most recent activity” mentioned in this article, is actually from May, 2016. And it has since calmed down.
This comment is not meant to raise anger, it is merely here to point out several facts.

Nobody who was ever close enough to watch a super volcano erupt ever survived, to ascertain that we would have almost a year’s warning is ludicrous and dangerous to tell the public. The best thing they could do is say we don’t know the signs of a super volcano before it erupts…because they don’t. Super volcano’s are not like normal volcano’s not even close.
My opinion would be you would get very little warning or none at all…it is an explosion most likely caused by a build up of explosive gases inside the lava chamber…under so much pressure that even an earthquake could cause it to blow by opening up a fissure underground that finds its way deeper and deeper until it intersects with another ancient fissure letting in just enough oxygen to set it off. It would create a huge explosion at first partially blowing off the top of the magma chamber the pressure underneath raising the lava until it spills over the lip of the new caldera.
If you were close enough to see this you wouldn’t survive.
Why isn’t there a rule in place stating you cannot make up lies in your headlines?
(D)ouble(D)ouchebag- Obviously you think this is OK….so “MAYBE”……I just “MIGHT”, find out everything about you….and scare the living sh1t out of you and your family.
Fair game…even out the battlefield…..turn the tables….
why does it always involve some religious bullshit
Well this news just what I needed to hear to end a really crappy day !!! I only live about three hundred miles from the Rim of the Yellowstone caldera !!!
This article is senseless. The information has no backing.
