Before every presidential election, you’ll always find plenty of Americans threatening to leave the country if their candidate doesn’t win. In Texas however, that sentiment is a little different. Instead of packing up and moving to a different country, a sizeable percentage of Texans would rather leave the US from the comfort of their own homes if Hillary Clinton wins.
That’s a roundabout way of saying that a lot of Texans would support a secession movement if Hillary becomes president. According to a poll conducted by Public Policy Polling, 26% of Texans would support a secession movement in their state right now, which isn’t far off from the results of previous polls that have asked the same question.
However, when asked if they would support letting their state secede if Hillary is elected, 40% of Texans said they would support a secession movement. 48% said they would rather stay in the US, and 12% weren’t sure. Among Trump supporters, 61% said they would support a secession movement if their candidate loses.
Not all of the questions posed by Public Policy Polling were serious. They also asked who Texans would support in the next election, if it came down to Hillary, Trump, Deez Nuts, and Harambe. And among other revelations, the poll found that Hillary and Trump are both unpopular, with 53% of Texans having an unfavorable opinion of Trump, and 59% having an unfavorable opinion of Hillary.
