Clearly, Hillary Can’t Actually Open a Jar of Pickles
In case you missed it, Hillary Clinton went on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, where she got to discuss those “crazy” rumors that her health is in the toilet. As part of a gag, Kimmel presented her with a jar of pickles and asked if she could open it, to prove in a tongue-in-cheek way that she is fit enough to be president. Hillary grunted and winced as she struggled, but ultimately succeeded in opening the jar. Or did she?
Did you notice anything odd about that strength demonstration?
Where was “pop” sound that jars make when you break the seal inside the lid? Obviously, the jar was previously opened off camera before Kimmel handed it to her. And in case you think that maybe the microphone’s didn’t pick up the sound, that’s not likely. You can hear the jar when Kimmel sets it on the table.
Many of her supporters in the comment section of that video have claimed that this was part of the joke. So we’re supposed to laugh about her pretending to strain herself on the jar? If that’s the case, it’s a very poorly executed joke. The audience doesn’t laugh when she opens it. They cheer instead. And pretty much every article that has been written on the video in the last 24 hours, explains the situation as if she really opened a pickle jar. There’s no joke there.
In any case, if someone as self-conscious as Hillary was actually capable of opening a pickle jar, wouldn’t she rather just do it for real? It’s not hard, even for a 68-year-old woman, and she would have gained the same exact reaction from the audience. Unless of course she really is so frail that she can’t open a freaking pickle jar.
