When 19-year-old shooting sports phenom Ginny Thrasher picked up Team USA’s first gold this Olympics for her showing in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event, some just couldn’t be happy for her.
Former holodeck resident and current BBT nemesis Wil Wheaton fired off, “America’s first gold medal in the 2016 Olympics was won by a teenager for shooting. Because we now live inside @TheOnion,” over Twitter then about a half hour later, after realizing perhaps how much of an ass he seemed, congratulated the Olympian.

And, of course, sincere congratulations to Virginia Thrasher, for winning her medal.

Not to let a Next Gen Star Trekker soak up all the snark, the UK’s favorite ex-pat in the former colonies, Piers Morgan chimed in just after with, “LEAST SURPRISING BREAKING NEWS EVER: America’s 1st Olympic Gold Medal is for Shooting. #Thrasher.”
LEAST SURPRISING BREAKING NEWS EVER: America's 1st Olympic Gold Medal is for Shooting. #Thrasher

To this, USA Shooting, the National Governing Body of Olympic and Paralympic Shooting in the United States, clapped back at Morgan noting not only Thrasher’s accomplishment (China was favored to win), and the clarification that she is an air rifle shooter, but also the fact that a highly skilled shooting sports team from Great Britain was in Rio.
Not bad for 140~ characters or less.
@piersmorgan Thanks for trolling. Realize it was a pellet gun, she defeated heavily favored Chinese, & 6 proud @GBShooting reps are in Rio 2

As for Thrasher, she has been gracious in her win and as an ambassador not only for her country, but for her sport. To bad some twice her age can’t do the same.
