Starving Venezuelans Break Into Zoo to Butcher Animal
Ever since Venezuela’s economy collapsed, their citizens have been desperate to obtain food in any way they can. Stories of starving people eating cats and dogs and rummaging through trash cans have become all too common. However, one can only go dumpster diving for so long, which is why Venezuelans are starting to get creative in their search for food.
That includes breaking into a zoo and eating the animals, which is what happened at the Caracas Caricuao Zoo over the weekend. Several intruders broke into the zoo at night, and entered an enclosure that contained a rare black stallion. They led the horse to a secluded area and butchered it. When the zoo keepers arrived the next day, they discovered the remains, which included nothing more than the horse’s head and ribs.
And this isn’t the first time something like this has happened at the zoo. Last month, several Vietnamese pigs and sheep were whisked away, and surely faced the same fate as the horse.
At this point, the food crisis in Venezuela doesn’t have much more room to worsen. The people there are scraping the bottom of the barrel for food. If it does get any worse, the Venezuelans will be eating each other.
