BREXIT campaigners have asked whether the Prime Minister’s past euroscepticism was “all an act” after an unearthed video revealed a young David Cameron moaning about an EU power-grab.
In Conservative Party footage from 2009, Mr Cameron is shown in his Westminster office berating Brussels’ plans to bring in “a permanent president of the EU, a foreign minister and a diplomatic service”.The then-Opposition leader also hit out at “a massive transfer of powers from the nation states of Europe to Brussels” being planned via the Lisbon Treaty, as he urged Britons’ to vote Conservative at that year’s European elections.
Mr Cameron had once promised voters a Yes/No referendum on the Lisbon Treaty with a “cast-iron guarantee” a Tory government would hold a public vote on the controversial agreement.
He performed a complete U-turn after the EU’s 27 other member states ratified the treaty.
