The 106 Precinct Anti-Crime unit announced the recovery of a “loaded Mac-11 submachine gun” this week that looks a lot like a MasterPiece Arms 9mm pistol.

So much in fact, that it actually says “MasterPiece Arms” on the frame, right by the two position safe/fire selector switch, pointing to the most likely conclusion, barring an unlikely conversion, is that the gun is likely just a scary looking MAC-like pistol. Don’t get us wrong, it is still illegal under the NY SAFE Act due to magazine size and, barring a bigfoot-rare NYC permit unlawful to have in the city as a whole, but still short of a sub gun.

Regardless, the MPA was picked up back on September 1 following an exchange of likely unfriendly gun fire in Queens near the intersection of 135 Street and Sutter Avenue. After reviewing video footage from a nearby home, a search warrant delivered by the humorless guys from the NYPDs Emergency Service Unit arrested a 30-year old man for Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Possession of a Weapon and a subsequent male and female on just the weapons charge.

The MPA is not the first “sub gun” taken off the streets this year, with a IMI/Action Arms imported Micro Uzi (with two-position switch) billed as a “fully automatic Uzi machine pistol” when picked up in April.

Last October the agency showed off a collection of 112 guns bought from a street dealer in a year’s worth of undercover buys in a Walgreens parkinglot that included several “suppressed UZIs” which were Walther/Umarex MP .22 caliber semi-auto clones with fake cans.

  • That is NO MAC-11 of any kind. That is a Sten magazine. Where is the release button for the stock under the aft end of the receiver? Liars.
