South Park on the Debate: Trump Has No Idea What He’s Doing, Hillary Is a Mindless Puppet
South Park famously said our options in presidential elections in this country are between a douche and a turd sandwich.
But check out their take on the first debate in season 20’s third episode, aptly titled, “The Damned,” between a Trump stand-in (Mr. Garrison) and Hillary Clinton:
Before the debate, Hillary’s advisors instruct her to remain cool and to respond to everything Garrison says with, “My opponent is a liar and cannot be trusted.”
It doesn’t work so well when Garrison (caked in orange makeup to poke fun at Trump’s tan) comes out the gate with:
“I will f*** this country up beyond repair. I am a sick, angry, little man. Please, if you care at all about the future of our country, vote for her.” Then adds, “She’s the one who at least has some experience. She’s not as bad as you think, I promise. And unlike me, she’s actually capable of running this country.”
But, ever the politician, all Hillary can do is parrot what her advisors told her to say about how Garrison is a liar and cannot be trusted, even after he says people should vote for Hillary. Her advisors can’t believe it:
It’s funny… but then ultimately sad to watch.
Regardless of whether or not you personally support either candidate, the sentiment echoed here is something we’re seeing across the country right now.
You might not want to hear it depending on how much of a diehard fan of one of these candidates you are, but a lot of American voters feel screwed this election season either way; many feel neither Hillary nor Trump is a solid option, and thus, many voters feel they don’t really have an option.
Many people realize (especially after that first debate) that both candidates are pro-police state, pro-war, and pro-NSA surveillance state/Patriot Act, so it really doesn’t matter what the options are because those things are definitely moving forward no matter who gets into the White house. And how many times during the debate did Trump say he agreed with Hillary? It was a lot.
What’s really sad are the polls which show that most voters are voting for either Hillary or Trump simply because they can’t stand the other candidate and want to see that person lose. Most of Hillary’s voters are voting for her simply because they can’t stand Donald Trump; likewise, many Trump voters just can’t stand the thought of Hillary and her elite backers in the oval office.
That’s a sad thing when the main reason people are voting at all is to vote against someone they can’t stand rather than voting for someone they actually think will do a good job as president.
Then again, that’s all under the pretense that our votes really matter and that the system isn’t totally rigged. Like Mark Twain famously said, “If voting made any difference they wouldn’t let us do it.”
