The recent Yahoo data breach affects over 500 million accounts. Is your credit at risk?
You’ve probably heard about the Yahoo!® data breach which affects over 500 million accounts. Yahoo noted that stolen information may include names, emails, security questions, phone numbers, and dates of birth.
As breach incidents are becoming increasingly commonplace, it’s important that we all remain vigilant in protecting our personal information.
If you have not done so already, please make sure you do these three things:
1) Change your Yahoo password immediately, as well as for any accounts that are using the same password. As a rule of thumb, you will want to create unique complex passwords as a strong first defense for every online account.
2) Regularly inspect credit card bills, phone bills, bank statements, and Experian® Credit Report to look for any potential signs of unauthorized use of your information.
3) If you suspect you’re a victim of identity theft, you will need to determine if you should put a credit freeze or fraud alert on your credit report.
Remember to take a deep breath and relax – you’re not in this alone. We are here to help you understand ways to proactively protect your information and support you when you need us.
