There is no such thing as a “smart” computer. There are two factors that determine a computers functionality:
Hardware which governs processing power and software which is just another word for a program. No matter how much processing power a computer has it will always be limited by it’s software and will never be smart.
Running a program very fast does not make a computer smart, it just makes it fast and software is only as good as it was made to be by its developers. Software will always be limited to what it was designed to do. Anyone with enough knowledge can make a software program to say whatever they want.
Even a good software program is only as good as the data entered into it. As the saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out”.
I hope this computer algorithm is accurate. As stated, it’s the quality of the data that goes in and the accuracy of the algorithm that process the data that make the difference. Whether it’s a super computer or your cellphone is immaterial given that the computer can process the data in the required length of time.
That goes without saying, but the key point here is….that the computer correctly “PREDICTED” our entire primary season. That means in advance. So what ever went in didn’t produce garbage out.
As a computer support specialist, and software developer I have to disagree. To a point, you’re correct. Any consumer computer really is not smarter than a human, it can just do things faster. However when you get into super-computers, quantum, well, that’s another story. It can make connections that humans would never make, and can predict outcomes based on those connections. I should preface that to say humans MAY be able to figure it out, but where it might take humans 200 years, a quantum computer could do it in minutes, if not seconds. Computers have come a long way my friend, and the best of the best are indeed capable of forming their own conclusions, based on connections that would never otherwise be considered.
Computers are only as ‘smart’ as the programmers.. Same goes for Ai tech
