A 38-year-old man from the Florida Keys is facing multiple charges after he pulled a gun on his comrades while on a boat last week, later claiming that they were engaged in an act of mutiny.
Authorities say Tobias Bybee was with four friends on the fishing boat and they had all been drinking when an argument broke out. During the argument, Bybee retrieved a rifle and struck one of the men in the throat with the butt of the gun. Bybee then fired several shots, none of which struck anyone, but scared everyone.
On their way inland, Bybee’s passengers placed a call to 911 to report the incident. Once ashore, Bybee was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Authorities found two guns belonging to Bybee aboard the boat.
According to the deputy who placed Bybee in custody, he said he fired the gun because of “mutiny on board the vessel.”
