The Los Angeles Police Department released video footage Tuesday showing a suspect who was shot and killed by police over the weekend was armed with a handgun.
The video was taken from a nearby business’ security system. In the video, 18-year-old Carnell Snell Jr. can be seen running in front of the business as he attempted to elude authorities. Carnell pulled a handgun from his waistband, then turned around and ran in the opposite direction. Seconds later, the officer came into view.
The officer who shot Snell was not equipped with a body camera, but he and another officer maintain Snell aimed the gun at them before they fired a total of six shots, striking Snell, who later died.
The shooting, along with another officer involved shooting with a different armed suspect about 24 hours later, set off protests in the city.
