(Before It's News)

Last week most Maine sheriffs announced they are recommending a “no” vote on Question 3 concerning expanding background checks on firearms to include most private transfers. This week they doubled down in an ad.

The voter referendum, financed by over $2 million primarily from New York-based Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, would mandate Brady checks on private gun sales among other tenets

Some 12 of 16 elected sheriffs in the state oppose the measure, which has the support of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association.

In the 30-second ad, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols, Washington county Sheriff Barry Curtis, Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant, Hancock County Sheriff Scott Kane, Waldo County Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton, Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton, and Piscataquis county Sheriff John Goggin, all make appearances.

They argue Q3 is poorly written, it is “being pushed by a New York billionaire who does not care about Maine,” would not stop criminals from getting guns and would send law-abiding Mainers to jail.

How long do you think before the Maine Chiefs of Police Association puts out a counter video claiming the exact opposite?
