Mohan, “Unluckiest Elephant In The World”, Finally Freed After 50 Years In Chains

Beaten, abducted, and shackled for almost 50 years, the world’s unluckiest elephant was recently rescued by an animal welfare charity and was sent to recover in a sanctuary. Mohan has spent all his life as a working elephant. He was abducted from his family when he was just a calf and has been exploited since. Over the years, he has practised begging upon strict instruction and also participated in several weddings as a prop. As a result, his body is covered with many wounds and marks that he gained from the tight shackle and continuous beating.

Mohan has spent a lot of his time with the famous Raju, another elephant who was rescued and pictured crying after his release. However, Mohan’s dramatic disappearance became a concern. ‘His freedom has been a long-time coming, and we are so grateful to everyone who stood strong through this long and often disheartening and dangerous fight for his freedom,’ a spokesman for Wildlife SOS said. He’s on road to complete recovery and should be fit and fine within no time.
