Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise: The Sterling Mk. 6 carbine (VIDEO)
Tim with the Military Arms Channel reaches back deep in the vault and coughs up a 1980’s era semi-auto, carbine length British-made Sterling 9mm carbine.
Developed in the last days of WWII, George William Patchett, the chief designer at the Sterling Armaments Company, designed a compact sub gun to replace the thousands of legacy burp guns in His Majesty’s service– the Lanchester, the Tommy gun, and the ubiquitous STEN.
Full scale production started in 1953 and the Sterling was only withdrawn from British military service in 1994– though it is still popular (and in licensed production) overseas. However, the most (in)famous users were the Imperial Storm Troopers in the Star Wars franchise.
Though there are a few sweet full-auto Sterlings in the states, the one Tim has is a Mk.6 semi-auto carbine that fires from a closed bolt to keep the BATFE folks happy. Still, it’s rare, neat and (we had to say it),”An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”
