Two New Jersey men will spend a combined 40 years in prison over a planned drug stash house robbery foiled by federal law enforcement in January 2014.

U.S. District Judge Noel L. Hillman on Monday sentenced 43-year-old Robert Smith, of Trenton, and 30-year-old Derrick Adams, of Florence and Willingboro, to 360 months and 120 months behind bars, respectively.

A jury found the two men guilty in April of conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, possessing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence and a drug trafficking crime, and possessing a firearm as a previously-convicted felon, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to the ATF, Smith, Adams and four other co-conspirators planned to impersonate police officers and steal cocaine from a suspected drug stash house. In text messages and recorded conversations, Smith admitted he would willingly kill anyone inside the stash house during the armed robbery.

ATF agents apprehended the six suspects on Jan. 30, 2014 in Maple Shade, New Jersey. The bureau recovered five firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun and two stolen handguns, “numerous rounds” of ammunition, ballistics vests, masks, gloves and zip ties from their vehicles.
