(Before It's News)

Two men – one running for local office – are facing charges after they got into a fight at a poll in St. Augustine, Florida, Thursday.

David Eric West showed up at the polling place with campaign materials, including sample ballots that endorsed a particular candidate. But Merrill Roland, a local candidate for the Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County, was apparently unhappy about the materials and asked to speak with West.

“All of a sudden, we saw two men getting into an argument, yelling at each other and pushing each other and one said, ‘You spit on me,’ and the other one said, ‘I did not,’” said witness Judy LaBree, who volunteered with her husband as a greeter at the poll.

The argument quickly escalated, and soon, punches were being thrown. But then, Roland upped the ante and deployed a stun gun. The weapon didn’t contact West, but the behavior left both men facing battery charges, as they both chose to press charges against the other.

LeBree said in her approximately 40 years of volunteering at the polls, she’s never seen anything like what she witnessed with West and Roland.

“I don’t know either of them, and it would be nice if they just learned to get along and everybody tried to keep the peace,” she said.
