(Before It's News)

Transportation Security Administration officials said Monday officers arrested two men for attempting to bring loaded guns onto their flights at a Baltimore airport last week.

TSA officers at the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport said the two incidents occurred just four days apart and don’t appear to be related.

Maryland Transport Authority Police arrested the first suspect, a man from Gwynn Oak, Maryland, on Thursday after TSA officers discovered a loaded .38-caliber handgun in his carry-on bag at one of the airport’s checkpoints. The man, who was preparing to board a flight to Las Vegas, claimed the gun wasn’t his and he didn’t know why it was in his bag.

A second man, from Millsboro, Delaware, was arrested Sunday after TSA officers discovered a loaded .22-caliber handgun in his carry-on as he prepared to board a flight to Toronto. He said he forgot the gun was in his bag.

The TSA says “firearms, firearm parts and ammunition” can only be carried on flights in checked baggage — unloaded, properly stored and declared to the airline. The men arrested last week not only face criminal charges, but civil penalties up to $12,000, the TSA said.
