During US State Department briefing RT’s reporter Gayane Chichakyan asked spokesman John Kirby for specific information concerning allegations that Russia is targeting hospitals in Syria. The response was a reiteration of those allegations and a refusal to treat RT in the same way as other media outlets. It should be noted that there are several “State Run” media outlets that do attend the State Department Briefings such as Al-Jazeera, BBC, as well as others from the Asia-Pacific regions. In the United States, the equivalent counterpart to RT would be Voice of America (VOA).
AP’s Matt Lee challenged Adm. John Kirby on his treatment of a fellow journalist during a State Department Briefing, which are typically held to a higher standard as the State Department often cites issues with other Nations not allowing or tolerating a free and open press.
