Honolulu’s Cafe 8 1/2 would like for you to realize that if you voted for Trump then, (1) you’re not accepted in their establishment and (2) you’re probably a Nazi. The tiny “eclectic mom-and-pop restaurant” is attracting a lot of interest after placing the subsequent bright yellow warning in their window:
The warning naturally rattled some Trump proponents who informed Fox News the communication “is discriminatory, and harkens back to the ‘racist and hate-filled’ days before statehood.”
Hawaii eatery 8 1/2 Cafe, which primarily serves Italian food, is under fire after reportedly posting a yellow, handwritten sign on its front door that reads, “If you voted for Trump you cannot eat here! No Nazis.
Some customers – even those who didn’t vote for President-elect Donald Trump – have taken issue with the sign, flooding the Honolulu restaurant’s Facebook page with negative, 1-star reviews.“8 1/2 will not serve anyone who supported Trump for president,” one Facebook user wrote. “This action is basically bias against half of America for thinking differently than they do and it’s horrible (besides being financially stupid). I will never, ever dine at 8 1/2 again. Sleep in the bed you made for yourselves.”
Another said, “[You’re] apparently as tolerant as you claim Trump supporters to be. I look forward to visiting your beautiful islands soon, but rest assured I won’t come to your restaurant. Voting with my pocketbook is nearly as fun as having majorities in the house, senate and a game changer in the White House…… Aloha (as in good-bye).”
“The recent posting of the ‘anti-Trump’ sign is in incredibly poor taste… and I would recommend boycotting this restaurant,” read another 1-star review. “Another example of the ‘tolerant left.’
While most of the reviews criticized the cafe for its discriminatory policy, some welcomed the Trump supporter ban.“Looking forward to dinning again in an environment free from Trump, Trump voters and other assorted Nazis and fascists. Well done, I wish I could give you more stars,” a woman posted along with a 5-star review. “Haters are going to hate on you, but don’t change your policy.”
Jali Warner, who owns 8 1/2 Cafe with her husband Robert, downplayed the sign when asked for a statement by Fox News, saying that they’re not actually asking customers who they voted for before letting them in.
“Robert just wants to express how much he doesn’t like Trump,” she said. “If people take it personally or it hurts them, we cannot help. That’s why we say they have [a] choice if they want to come or not come. We don’t force them.”
“It’s childish and very unprofessional,” she mentioned in an email. “… The restaurant {owner {doesn’t have to worry … I will not be stepping foot in that establishment.”
Willes Lee, ex – chairman of the Hawaii Republican Party and these days president of National Federation of Republican Assemblies, explained to FoxNews.com the warning is discriminatory, and harkens back to “racist and hate-filled” times before statehood.
“Remember when Filipinos couldn’t go in certain places, or Japanese wouldn’t be allowed [in] many homes? And, it didn’t matter who they voted for,” stated Lee, who is of Japanese descent.
“People should be able to get food without hearing a political message,” one distinct ex – customer published on Yelp. “I will never go back.”
Evidently, so many folks lashed out at the warning on Yelp that the administrators had to publish the subsequent “Active Cleanup Alert” to alert everyone that they would be connecting to other Silicon Valley companies in censoring undesirable comments from Trump proponents.
Not awfully surprising, the restaurant was launched by a couple formerly hailing from the liberal bastion of San Francisco. But don’t stress, one proprietor verified to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that even if you’re donning a Trump shirt they “don’t put anything different [in] your food”…which we assume is Hawaiian for “we spit in your food excessively.”
Based on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the cafe was launched by Robert Warner, a ex – hair stylist for Vidal Sassoon in San Francisco and ex – restaurateur in Seattle, along with his spouse Jali.
Reached for feedback Tuesday, Jali downplayed the sign’s designed ban. She informed FoxNews.com the restaurant is not truly asking customers whether they voted for President-elect Trump, and mentioned even if they see a customer with a Trump shirt, “we don’t put anything different [in] your food.”
“Robert just wants to express how much he doesn’t like Trump,” Jali stated. “If people take it personally or it hurts them, we cannot help. That’s why we say they have [a] choice if they want to come or not come. We don’t force them.”
