(Before It's News)

Two U.S. Marine sergeants attached to III Marine Expeditionary Force go on an all-out race to see who can break down and reassemble their .50 cal the fastest.

Developed by John Moses Browning at the end of World War I, over two million M2 .50 cals were made in World War II and the gun hasn’t changed that much since then. Mounted on the standard M3 Tripod, the “Ma Duece” remains the mainstay of all Marine Corps heavy machine gun platoons and can deal the hurt out past 2,000 yards.

However, the M2 is a beast– at 138-pounds with its tripod– and has a nonfixed headspace that must be set and a timing that must be adjusted to keep the old girl ticking. This leaves those who operate the big .50 with a mandate to be masters of their craft and an intimate need to know their weapon.

This is displayed by the two Marines of the 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, “somewhere in the Pacific” as they race to see who can break it down and put it back together the fastest– without having left over pieces.
