I seem to recall a TV show by the name Lucifer appearing weekly in prime time. Can I ask, Where is the secret?
The Greenwich meridian was entirely accidental, the choice was due to an observatory being conveniently near London which also happened to mark off time to shipping in the port of London to give longitude. London was the most important starting point for the worlds shipping, the Greenwich meridian was established in 1851 as zero longitude by Sir George Airy, but before then each country around the world had its own variants, London was in bitter competition at the time with Paris as the location of the Prime Meridian, and quite simply, though the principle of one was established, breaking the world into Time zones, not every nation accepted the concept, it took a world conference in 1884 in Washington and the fact that during the Victorian age most if not all the worlds shipping used British maps. France in a fit of spite did not accept until it 1911 and it looks as if that country still has not forgiven us. The Paris Meridian still exists which was created by François Arago c1807-8.
No matter where you create a Prime Meridian on the entire globe, because it runs through Antarctica, any place on the globe can be 0 longitude and you will still draw a line through the continent.
