(Before It's News)

WWII gun

During a recent event collecting unwanted weapons in Fredericksburg, Virginia, authorities received an antique gun along with a handwritten note explaining its origins.

“This gun was issued to my father in the Army around 1944,” the note read. “He has since died and I am unable to use it safely.”

The anonymous author concluded that giving the gun up was a “WIN-WIN-WIN.”

“It’s a win for the gun owner, a win for police, and a win for the community,” said Fredericksburg Police Chief David Nye.

The gun was one of nearly 30 turned in that day and for each firearm turned in, philanthropist Doris Buffett donates $100 to a local charity. Since its start two years ago, the program has collected more than 100 firearms.
