(Before It's News)

SilencerCo showed off their finished Maxim 9 integrally suppressed pistol Monday at SHOT Show 2017’s Industry Range Day. The biggest revelation detailed on the production model over prototypes shown off in the past two years is the aspect that the Maxim can sport one of two user-configurable suppressor options of varying length.

The difference in length between the two builds is about an inch, with the full-size configuration, top, measuring 10.75-inches overall and the abbreviated one taping out at 9.54-inches. Pistols ship with all parts needed for either set-up.

The Maxim is user-configurable for standard, top, and a more compact length. The difference in length between the two builds is about an inch, with the full-size configuration measuring 10.75-inches overall and the abbreviated one taping out at 9.54-inches. Pistols ship with all parts needed for either set-up.

The shorter configuration is about an inch longer than a standard 1911 and, with a weight of 37-ounces tips the scales at about the same. In each set-up, the semi-automatic 9mm is 1.58-inches wide. For comparison, the Glock 22 is 1.27-inches wide. The top of the pistol is pre-cut for aftermarket optic mounts above the fixed barrel.

The full-length standard configuration weighs 39 ounces but is hearing safe with all 9mm ammunition –whereas the shorter stack can only boast the same with 147-grain subsonic. Freedom Munition’s HUSH ammo was on hand and gave excellent results on the range.

In firing, the heavy slide with aggressive serrations balances the gun well, escaping the pitfalls of having a nose-heavy gun due to the Maxim’s unorthodox profile. No matter what you think of the sci-fi shape, though, the pistol drops the sound signature of a 115-grain 9mm round down to 137.1dB at the muzzle in tests.

SilencerCo advises the Maxim 9 is now available and will retail for $1,499.
