(Before It's News)

More than 200 people were arrested during riots Friday as Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, and federal prosecutors confirmed that most were charged with felony rioting.

If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $250,000, although most were released without bond to return to court February. Interim D.C. police chief Peter Newsham said 217 arrests were made in downtown Washington, D.C. around the same time Trump was sworn in.

Numerous businesses were left with broken windows and cars were set on fire. The rioters, some of whom were armed with crowbars, threw objects at buildings and people. Some Trump supporters trying to get to the National Mall were met by angry protesters who tried to block their passage.

Altogether, half a dozen police officers were left with injuries, three of whom were hit in the head with objects that had been thrown.
