Obama Used His New Executive Order for the First Time, Officially Classified US Electoral System as “Critical Infrastructure”
While most people are aware of Obama’s response to Russia and the “punishment” he doled out over the still-yet-unproven election hacking allegations, this part of it come as a bit of a surprise.
In order to do so, Obama used Executive Order (EO) 13964 titled “Blocking the Property of Certain Persons Engaging in Significant Malicious Cyber-Enabled Activities” for the first time. He issued the original EO back in April 2015, which laid out 16 sectors that will now officially be considered “critical infrastructure”.
The almost-gone-forever president amended EO 13964 when he used it on December 29, 2016 to “punish” Russia by officially adding the US election system to the nation’s “critical infrastructure”.
Remember when DHS head Jeh Johnson announced Homeland Security might have to take over and “protect” our elections as critical infrastructure (a scary prospect at the time considering how partisan/progressive/pro-Hillary Obama’s entire administration is)?
Well now they have one more layer of bureaucracy under which to do so in the future.
