Jeff Sessions confirmed as USAG: Why lone Dem voted aye
The U. S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed President Trump’s U.S. Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions. His stellar legal career will be an asset to the Trump administration and the American people.
The vote was 52 – 47. (view here) with a single Democrat — West Virginia’s Joe Manchin — deviating from the party line. The Senate’s two Independents voted with the Democrats. Sessions voted “present.”
West Virginia gave Donald Trump a landslide victory of 68.65% to Hillary Clinton’s meager showing of 26.46%.
Democrat Manchin is a longtime politician, having been elected to the state House and Senate, as Secretary of State and Governor, before being elected U. S. Senator in Nov. 2010. He’s learned a few things along the way. First and foremost is his coal producing state was thrown under the bus by his party’s presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as she promised to “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.” (video)

In 2008, presidential candidate Obama previously vowed to bankrupt the coal industry (video) as he spoke with the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Manchin will be running for reelection in 2018. That fact is reflected in his vote.
No wonder the leading coal producing state of West Virginia has had its fill of Democrats and Sen. Joe Manchin treads carefully. Miners who toil underground, risking their lives to provide energy, their friends and family vote.
