Still hallucinating that he’s president, John McCain is working feverishly –with a contingent of Democrats and a couple of Republicrats — in an effort to pull the rug out from the man who actually was elected….President Donald Trump
Since hypocritically withdrawing his brief primary endorsement and declaring he would not vote for Trump, the petulant McCain has tried to undermine the president at every turn.
His latest gambit is a bill that would require any decision by the Trump administration to ease sanctions against Russia to be subject to congressional oversight — which amounts to McCain giving McCain the authority that has eluded him. Where was McCain’s voice when Barack Obama and his Secretary of State John Kerry oversaw the disastrous nuclear deal with Iran, sweetening the transaction with an unthinkable $400 million ransom for hostages, and what National Review characterizes as “a carefully structured $1.7 billion side payment.”
McCain’s Gang of Eight amnesty efforts fell flat, as did those preceding it. Now he’s trying for a less cumbersome Gang of Six to rein in Pres. Trump. His co-conspirators are Democrat Sens. Claire Catskill (MO), Ben Cardin, (MD), Sherrod Brown (OH) and his reliable RINO kin Sens. Marco Rubio (FL) and Lindsey Graham (SC). Missing from the mix this time is McCain’s doppelganger, Jeff Flake. He can’t afford the exposure since he’s up for reelection this year and Arizona conservatives are more than disgusted with his self-serving antics.
The Hill reports that Ben Cardin, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee said, “It’s not an attack against President Trump. This is basically to reestablish our role.”
Believe that and we’ve got a bridge to sell you.
At a health care summit in 2010, a showboating McCain lobbed challenges at then-President Obama — who began his response by reminding McCain of the passage of time. “Let me just make this point, John, because we’re not campaigning anymore, the election’s over.” (4:27)
Obviously, we’re anything but Obama fans. Still, this would be good advice for McCain to follow. Donald Trump is the President of the United States. Even Hillary Clinton accepts that fact. It’s time for McCain to join her.
