milo press conference

Milo Yiannopoulos, the king of controversy, has finally said something that put him in hot water with the public. Over a year ago the conservative provocateur suggested on a podcast that sex between “young boys” and older men is acceptable.  As a result, he has been dis-invited from speaking at this year’s CPAC, and has had his $250,000 book deal with Simon and Schuster canceled.

Of course, this whole controversy reeks of a mainstream media hit job (or perhaps even a Deep State hit job). During the interview, Milo stated that “We get hung up on this sort of child abuse stuff, to the point where we are heavily policing consensual adults (emphasis mine).” Clearly, when he said “young boys” he wasn’t talking about little boys, but young men. Milo has since apologized for how he phrased his opinion, but has reiterated that he did not advocate for pedophilia, which is defined as sex with prepubescent children. He has also stated that the clip in question was selectively edited, and that it left out the part where he said that the current age of consent, which is around 18 in most US States, is “about right.”

Since the controversy began, there have been rumors that his job as tech editor for Breitbart.com was on the line. Several staff members at Breitbart were threatening to resign if Milo wasn’t fired, and there were concerns that Milo’s controversial statements could hurt ad revenue.

As a result, Milo announced today at a press conference that he would be resigning from Breitbart, on the grounds that “I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately. This decision is mine alone.”
