Rancho Seco was decommissioned is 1989. And has been a Public recreational area since 1992.

The site is roughly 27 miles south of Sacramento. The assemblies hold 22 metric tons of uranium, said Einar Ronningen manager of Rancho Seco assets for SMUD.
He said the storage has always been a temporary solution for the waste.”

This is really fake, there hasn’t been any fuel rods or anything else radioactive in this place for years, it never even came on line !!, I know a lot of the stories here are a stretch,but this is really bad, maybe before publishing a story try to verify anything.

Ranco Seco operated for 18 years 1971 until 1989 (http://www.energy-net.org/01NUKE/RSECOT.HTM) which is enough time to generate enough radioactivity to burn though nearly 8 generations of solid fuel rods. The site itself was shut down for gross safety violations, bad construction, releases of radioactivity in many accidents and a long long record of bad management. 10 acres of radioactive waste is stored at the site(http://www.nukefree.org/news/20YearsAfterSacramentoVotedtoShutRanchoSeco,SMUDHasDiversifiedEnergySources) containing 493 spent fuel assemblies – the kind that self ignite when exposed in Fukushima.
P.S the waste is still there. Nobody else wants it.
