TWO NEW ANCIENT CONTINENTS “DISCOVERED”

A report on two recent announcements concerning the discovery of ancient continents. Zealandia & Maritia are believed to have been part of the once super-continent Gondwana.

Talk about earth changes!

Metro.co.uk reports….

New Zealand sits atop a previously unknown continent – mostly submerged beneath the South Pacific – that should be recognised with the name Zealandia, scientists have said.

Researchers said Zealandia was a distinct geological entity and met all the criteria applied to Earth’s seven other continents – elevation above the surrounding area, distinctive geology, a well-defined area and a crust much thicker than that found on the ocean floor.

In a paper published in the Geological Society of America’s Journal, GSA Today, they said Zealandia measured 1.9 million square miles and was 94% underwater.

The paper’s authors said it had only three major landmasses, New Zealand’s North and South Islands to the south, and New Caledonia to the north.

Then just a couple of days ago this report showed up….

Move over, Atlantis! A real lost continent has been discovered by a team of geologists led by Lewis D. Ashwal from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. The scientists, who have named it Mauritia, believe that the landmass was once part of Gondwana, the supercontinent that included most of the landmasses in the modern-day Southern Hemisphere and the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent that are now part of the Northern Hemisphere.

They further hypothesize that when the supercontinent broke up about 180 million years ago Mauritia split into fragments and drifted across the Indian Ocean. The volcano eruption that gave birth to Mauritius nine million years ago, blanketed one of the pieces, burying it three to six miles below the surface of the beautiful island.
