The widespread ignorance about trade among young voters is deeply disturbing – not least because trade agreements, and their role in hollowing out the American middle-classes, arguably made Trump’s election possible.
I don’t support SECRET trade agreements, but the simple fact most people overlook is that producing in America is too expensive in relation to other countries. That means lots of inflation in the economy! Unions that practice collective bargaining, minimum wage laws, affirmative action laws, too many epa regulations, too much income and capital gains taxation, etc.
The secondary fact is lack of any tariffs on imports. It doesn’t matter if it’s a chineese brand or American brand, something is manufactured overseas and comes to the states, it should be taxed, period. The tariffs should be enough to overcome the cost of living fluctuations between the countries trading goods and services.
