(Before It's News)

The day after New York’s junior U.S. Senator vowed to stop a bill to remove suppressors from the National Firearms Act, the sponsor of the measure took to social media with an offer.

“Senator Gillibrand from New York tweeted out some concerns about my bill, the Hearing Protection Act, so I invited her to join me on the gun range to try out suppressors for herself and learn that they aren’t what Hollywood makes them out to be,” noted U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan on Facebook. “I sincerely hope she takes me up on my offer.”

Duncan is one of the original co-sponsors of the Hearing Protection Act which aims to deregulate suppressors as a safety measure to help promote their use in protecting hearing. Enrolled as H.R. 367, the bill has 121 co-sponsors but no date for committee hearings. A companion Senate measure, S.59, has 11 co-sponsors.

Gillbrand, along with gun control advocates, went on the offensive Tuesday against the measure contending that a move to lighten the Great Depression-era regulations on suppressors would make it easier for criminals to get their hands on such devices.

On Wednesday she took to Twitter to further pursue her case via social media.

To which Duncan volleyed back, pointing out that suppressors are not really “silencers” as depicted in film.
