TASER has developed a new wireless holster sensor that alerts police body cameras when the officer’s gun is drawn, according to a TASER press release.

The new Axon Signal Sidearm will alert Axon body cameras within a 30-foot range to start recording when a firearm is drawn from an officer’s holster.

The Signal Sidearm will reportedly attach to and be compatible with most firearm holsters without interfering with normal operation. The device also has a coin cell battery that will last approximately 1.5 years and will alert users when the battery is running low.

“When law enforcement officers must draw a weapon, the last thing they should worry about is their technology,” said TASER CEO and Co-Founder, Rick Smith. “The Signal Sidearm will give officers the same confidence in their technology that already exists in encounters involving Smart Weapons that use our Signal technology. It’s an important step in extending the reach of the Axon network to connect other devices.”

The Signal Sidearm is just the latest in the Axon Signal line, part of the Axon network that has contracted 100,000 licenses worldwide.
