Senior UN Official Resigns Over Report On Israeli ‘Apartheid’

The head of the United Nations’ West Asia Commission, who recently criticized Israel’s acts against Palestinians, has resigned.

Rima Khalaf announced her resignation after she came under pressure from the UN secretary general to withdraw a report, which said Israel has imposed an apartheid regime on Palestinians. Earlier, the US condemned the report, demanding the world body pull it. Washington is Israel’s staunchest ally in the world. Various US administrations have shielded Tel Aviv from punitive measures by the UN. The US has vetoed numerous anti-Israeli resolutions at the UN Security Council in recent decades.
