Drone terror-bombings began in Yemen under Bush/Cheney, continued under Obama, now under Trump, Saudi Arabia involved as a convenient US proxy.
On January 29, a deadly US special forces raid on a Yemeni village massacred at least two dozen civilians, achieving nothing but deaths and destruction.
Days later, Trump press secretary Sean Spicer lied, claiming “(w)e gathered an unbelievable amount of intelligence that will prevent the potential deaths or attacks on American soil.”
Not according to unnamed US officials, likely Obama holdovers, telling NBC News the mission gained no “actionable intelligence” – nothing not already known.
It’s unclear why it was undertaken in the first place. Washington supports ISIS, al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, Trump yet to prove he intends smashing them as promised – despite the Pentagon saying it carried out multiple airstrikes on Yemen.
Using drones and warplanes, targets in Abyan, al-Bayda and Shabwah governorates were struck – allegedly against al-Qaeda, more likely against Houthi fighters, almost certainly harming defenseless civilians most.
According to Pentagon spokesman navy Captain Jeff Davis, “(t)he strikes will degrade the AQAP’s ability to coordinate external terror attacks and limit their ability to use territory seized from the legitimate government of Yemen as a safe space for terror plotting.”
The raids were carried out “in partnership” with the illegitimate Yemeni government, headed by US-installed puppet president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
More airstrikes occurred on Friday. US special forces were sent to southern Yemen – allegedly to engage al-Qaeda fighters, civilians most likely killed.
US and Saudi operations want Houthi rebels defeated. Forces battling them are aided, not targeted.
