No, this is not a BlueBloods tv episode about the Blue Templar. :)

An apparently ordinary rabbit’s hole in a farmer’s field leads to an underground sanctuary said to have been used by devotees of a medieval religious order – but is everything what it seems?

Rabbit hole leads to ‘mystery caves’ of Knights Templar

According to local legend, the Caynton Caves, near Shifnal, in Shropshire, were used by followers of the Knights Templar in the 17th Century.

Located less than a metre underground, they appear to be untouched structurally.

Their original purpose is shrouded in mystery, but Historic England, which describes the caves as a “grotto”, believes they were probably built in the late 18th or early 19th Century – hundreds of years after the Templar order was dissolved.

Rabbit hole in farmer’s field leads to secret caves thought to have been used by Knights Templar

A British photographer who followed a rabbit hole found that it led to a fantasy world … or at least part of history rumored to involve knights and secret caves.

A cave beneath a farmer’s field in Shropshire, in England’s West Midlands, is said by locals to have been used by Knights Templars during the Middle Ages.

The Knights, who are associated with the Crusades and appear in conspiracies such as those in the Da Vinci Code, were dissolved in the 14th century, though heritage group Historic England says the cave is from the late 1700s.

“I traipsed over a field to find it, but if you didn’t know it was there you would just walk right past it. Considering how long it’s been there it’s in amazing condition, it’s like an underground temple,” photographer Michael Scott said, according to the BBC.

He said that the space inside is cramped, with anyone 6 feet or taller needing to duck down in order to explore inside.

Though the caves resurfaced in the news because of Scott’s photos, at least some others have found the mysterious grotto in recent years, reportedly using the site for #blackmagicCeremonies.

They are on private land and have been closed off by the land owners at different times after #warlocks used them for rites.

The owners told the Birmingham Mail that they often have let pagans and druids use the caves, but have also put up surveillance and fences nearby to keep away teenagers who use them as a place to drink.

The caves are of disputed origin, though locals say they are connected to the Knights Templar.
