The Daily Mail is reporting that these graphic images were captured in 2009 in the waters of Port Lockroy, a natural harbour on the north-west shore of Wiencke Island, where colonies of penguins are a familiar sight.While the sea leopard seal hunts in the shallows it can strike at lightning speed, the sharp toothed leopard can gorge on up to 12 penguins a day.The leopard seal hides in the shallow bay before low tide trying to disguise itself as a rock to trick it’s prey.
You can’t help but feel sorry for the little penguin as he quickly became a tasty meal for the leopard seal.According to ABC News, one unlucky penguin met up with a starving seal, leading to the bird’s fate and a set of incredible photos.
