I had heard they do things big in Texas. Boy, can I attest to that. I made my first trip to the Lone Star State for a relative’s milestone birthday party. Not just a party, but a real shindig. Everybody was all dolled up, me included. The attire called for a 1920s theme, so I wore a cute little red dress from Martha Stewart’s pet line. It was the closest I could get to a flapper dress while shopping at PetSmart in Big D. I’m sure Dallas has nice pet boutiques, but I didn’t have time to find one during my brief trip. Even in my inexpensive dress, I was the hit of the party!

Next month, I will take my fashion more seriously. For the second consecutive years, I’m going to strut down the catwalk during Haute Dog San Francisco, a doggy runway fashion show at the San Francisco Design Center. I was so fabulous last year in Fifi & Romeo that my photo made the invite this year. Because the style bar is set super high for Haute Dog, after my weekend in Dallas, I jetted to Los Angeles to shop for the perfect outfit. I had fun trying on different Fifi & Romeo outfits, including a red bamboo dress with gold trim, and a fluffy purple number. And I was sort of civil to the two dogs that belong to Yana, who owns the boutique and designs the darling clothes. You’ll have to wait until next month to see which outfit I chose.

During this trip, I stayed at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The hotel has a spiffy pet program, including a room service menu for dogs and cats. My mommy ordered a dish that included beef, rice and eggs. I thought I had died and gone to doggy heaven when she left me alone in the room to feast unsupervised. I guess she forgot how greedy I am. I know I should have stopped eating when I felt, full but I couldn’t help myself. I ate and ate and ate and ate. I don’t think I need to go into detail about what happened to me after overeating, but it’s no wonder I ended up at the vet and we had to stay in L.A. an extra day until I felt well enough to travel back home to San Francisco. Sorry, Mommy, for the vet and hotel bill.
