Now this is something we don’t usually think about when a removal is on our way. There is so many things to think about that we hardly have the time to think how our pet will adopt to the new place. We expect that our pets will get used to the new place easily, but is it so? Usually people in the middle of their preparations for the removal of their properties to new homes are naturally eager to settle themselves in the new place, and they keep discussing that with their families. They do not often stop to think about their pets and how they will bear the sight of the preparations for the removal, and how fast they will get used to the new place.
Pets cannot express their emotions in words, and yet they are highly sensitive creatures who love their owners dearly, and they love their homes with the same dear love. Getting used to the new places can be a daunting process, filled with anxiety for the pets, and cats and dogs are especially prone to such anxiety.
The insecurity of pets starts manifesting itself during the packing and preparations for the removal activities. They sense that some crucial changes are planned, and their apprehension soars. They behave in an uncontrolled way, squealing, scratching, running to and fro, and sometimes vomiting. The symptoms of pets’ anxiety continue after they have been brought to their new homes. Sometimes their owners despair and think that their pets will not be able to get accustomed to the new home, and people are worried about their pets’ health.
Being highly sensitive creatures who are attached to their current homes, pets naturally grieve that they have to leave them, and they do not understand why they have to do that. Tender loving care displayed by their owners can help pets to live through the difficult periods of packing, removal of home belongings, and finally arriving in the new home. The support shown to pets can help them deal with the agonising circumstances of having to change home, which is related to a great discomfort for them, to say the least. The bizarre behaviour of pets in such conditions should not be regarded as something that cannot be coped with and should be alleviated with care and affection as much as possible. Getting pets, especially cats and dogs, familiar with the new surroundings is especially important, and they should be left to explore their new homes at ease, perhaps mess up a bit, and mark the territory as their own.
The rule of lavishing care and affection on pets is also true of the period of preparing the removal of the home belongings by a removal company. Pets should be reassured frequently and left to observe and explore the preparation and removal activities. They should be shown that such activities are not regarded by their owners as something negative or threatening. Pets, especially cats and dogs, constantly demand attention and affection, and they should receive them especially in such unusual periods of their lives as the need for packing and removing home belongings and relocation to a new home. Then, supported by their owners’ affection, pets will be able to cope with the difficulties of having to change their home and will more easily adapt themselves to the new surroundings.
