The so-called “Wilhelm scream” is a sound effect of a man screaming, originally from a 1953 Western called “The Charge at Feather River,” in which a character named Wilhelm is shot with an arrow. Over the past 60 years, the scream has been re-used in more than 200 movies, becoming an in-joke, an Easter egg for movie buffs with keen ears to find. The problem is that the Wilhelm scream is too well-known now. The in-joke isn’t so in anymore. It’s time to retire Wilhelm. And the creator of this video happens to believe that a screaming goat — the star of a recently popular viral video — does a better job at sounding human than a human does. We can’t say we disagree. Check out his examples and decide for yourself.
