We’ve got a full calender of upcoming events for ABA members for 2015 and beyond. If you’re interested in joining ABA staff and experienced local guides at sites across the ABA Area (and beyond!) for what will undoubtedly be a fantastic time, please see our events website.
Highlights include:
ABA Cruise to the Dry Tortugas – About 70 miles west of Key West, amid the blue waters of the Gulf, lies a remote, idyllic archipelago, well known among birders as a haven for migrants and a magnet for rarities. Dry Tortugas National Park is home to the enormous and impressive Fort Jefferson. The Fort is located on Garden Key and has hosted a remarkable array of ABA Area rarities, while the sparse vegetation attracts a nice mix of warblers and other migrants. May is a great time for Caribbean vagrants, and is excellent for warblers and other Neotropical migrants too. With Cuba only a few dozen miles away, one never knows what might show up. Register before MARCH 6 for an early bird discount.
ABA SUMMIT at the American Birding Expo – Join ABA Staff, fellow ABA members, and a great mix of well-known birding personalities at our first-ever ABA Summit to be held just prior to and in association with the: AMERICAN BIRDING EXPO hosted by Bird Watcher’s Digest in Columbus, Ohio at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. And best of all, it’s FREE! Join us for a pre-EXPO event including workshops, demonstrations, discussions, and socials. We’d love to see you there!
ABA Birding Rally: Spearfish, South Dakota – The ABA’s Birding Rallies, smaller events focused on experiencing the birds and culture of a specific location, have been incredibly successful. Out next rally is going to be held in South Dakota’s beautiful and unique Black Hills region this summer. Here, the deciduous forest of the east meets the pinewoods of the west, and the boreal forest of the north meets the desert scrub of the south. This meeting of east and west means that you can have the unique experience of making direct comparisons between two kinds of White-breasted Nuthatch and Warbling Vireos, and also see Lazuli and Indigo Buntings, and their hybrids, all at the same location. We still have a few spots remaining so sign up soon!
