You Can Help the ABA Finish Strong in 2015!
Do you value your birding community? Are you appreciative of all the people in our growing community who do the little things to advocate for birders and birds? Our expanding circles of friends and acquaintances in the bird world are chock full of those who offer their time, their enthusiasm, their expertise, so that out community can stay vibrant. The field trip leaders, the guide authors, the leaders of local and state bird clubs, sure. But also the people who find great birds and the homeowners who allow us to see them. Those who share their scope, their knowledge, their experiences. We have so, so much to be thankful for.

Certainly, the ABA is no different. We are incredibly thankful for the support members and fans have shown us throughout 2015. That appreciation goes out to active participants, members, and advocates for birds, birders, and birding, as well as those who have been generous with donations of time, money, or optics.
If you value this North American birding community like we do, we want to ask that you consider a generous year-end gift to our annual appeal to help the ABA continue its work to inspire all people to enjoy and protect wild birds.
This has been a big year indeed for the ABA birding community, filled with ambitious projects both continuing and new. Birding magazine continues as the premier resource for birders, and Birder’s Guide series has focused attention on popular and useful topics, including travel, gear, listing and taxonomy, as well as the many ways ABA members contribute to conservation and help build the birding community.
The growth in our online resources continues to astound, with tens of thousands of unique monthly users for Birding News, The ABA Blog and the ABA Rare Bird Alert. Our young birder camps have enjoyed universally admired successes, even growing in 2016. We continue to add titles to the ABA field guide series, with California recently released and Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New York coming soon. We continue to advance the cause of bird conservation initiatives in the National Wildlife Refuge System by offering the 2015-2016 Federal Duck Stamp through our website.
And most exciting of all, the new Spark Bird Initiative aims to put quality binoculars in the hands of underserved schoolchildren via successful environmental education programs in Ohio, California, Massachusetts, and beyond.
Just as important are recent initiatives by our Checklist and Recording Standards & Ethics committees and by the ABA Awards program. The hardworking committees have refined and provided guidance for how to bird “the ABA Way”–and have added more species to the ABA list!

As a special thank you, we are offering beautiful prints of our ABA 2015 Bird of the Year, the Green Heron, by Rafael Galvez, a leading bird artist and ABA member. Those donating $150 or more will receive an 11” x 14” print, hand-signed by the artist. For qualifying donations received by phone, online, or by mail on or before Monday, December 7, the commemorative prints will be delivered by December 24. For qualifying donations received between December 8 and 31, the prints will be sent in January 2016.
