We all know individual birders and conservationists who have done wonderful things for birds and our community. The American Birding Association is happy to recognize men and women who have made those important contributions since 1980.
In 2015 we recognized Maryland’s Chandler Robbins as the winner of the ABA Roger Tory Peterson Award, given for a lifetime of achievements in promoting the cause of birding, Ohio’s Kimberly Kaufman and Maryland’s George Radcliffe as winners of the ABA Chandler Robbins Award for outstanding contributions to conservation or education, New Mexico’s Dale Zimmerman as recipient of the ABA Ludlow Griscom Award for outstanding contributions in regional ornithology, and we presented ABA’s newest award, the Betty Petersen Award for Conservation and Community, to Pennsylvania’s Jack Siler.

Now we want to invite all ABA members to nominate worthy individuals for possible recognition in 2016. Only ABA members in good standing may make nominations. Nominating is straightforward – you can nominate using an on-line form found on the ABA web site or you can make a paper nomination and mail it in to ABA at Delaware City headquarters.
In either case you should carefully read the descriptions of each award and make sure that your written comments stress how your nominee’s achievements correspond with the specific relevant award for which you are making the nomination.
All award nominations are carefully reviewed by ABA’s Awards Committee, which will make recommendations for awardees to the ABA Board of Directors in early 2016. The ABA Board will make the final decisions for awards to be presented in 2016.
The deadline for receipt of nominations is December 31, 2015.
Please help us to recognize those individuals in our community who have done wonderful things with one of our ABA Awards. We hope to hear fom you by the end of the month.
