More Torture Pics: Torture by U.S. continues under Obama administration
We have been hearing all the gush about how the Obama Administration will make a clean break from the illegal practices of the Bush Administration but the Obama DOJ is maintaining the position espoused by the Bush DOJ that the case alleging torture had to be dismissed because allowing it to proceed would disclose state secrets. The case, Mohamed et al. v. Jeppesen, must remain secret because of U.S. threats to cut off intelligence sharing. Britain’s Telegraph reported that “Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel among other extreme torture methods.”
NSA whistleblower Russell Tice, disclosed that the NSA spying under the Bush Administration was used to spy on journalists and Congress Members.
Patriot Act Prohibits Torture section 811 of the Act amends the Fed. Criminal Statute prohibiting torture 18 USC 2340, to prohibit conspiracy to commit torture, and the same penalties apply as if the person actually committed torture. So the Patriot Act drafted by Bush lawyers can imprison everyone from George Bush and Dick Cheney down to the DOJ and DoD lawyers for conspiracy to commit torture. to the Congressmembers who signed off on it to Pres. Obama and Attorney Gen. Eric Holder for trying to cover this up.
