I’d like to use the ‘women driving change’ quest as an excuse to tell you a little about a regular on my feed, Megan. She was in year six of the highly regarded physical oceanography phd program at the University of Washington when she became disenfranchised with academia and wanted to make a bigger impact on the world.
She wound up applying for a teaching position in America and was placed in a Title 1 school in Nampa, Idaho, teaching eighth grade earth science. She is almost done with her second year teaching, and in her short time as an educator, has had state senators, school district superintendents and countless other education representatives attend her classes to witness the impact and rapport she has with her students. This year, she also secured a grant for her school to bring a computer to every student, and will spearhead the training to institute the new computer-based curriculum.
